How to set up and use POS (Point of Sale) payments

Bókun POS integration is a streamlined payment solution that helps you reduce queues, improve the customer experience, and manage payments more efficiently on location.

 

What is POS?

POS, or Point of Sale, is a payment feature that enables tour operators to process in-person payments directly through their booking system. It connects your booking platform with physical payment terminals or mobile devices, allowing seamless payment processing where your customers are.

  • Creating bookings and processing payments in a single workflow
  • Enabling flexible payment collection wherever your customers are
  • Automatically marking bookings as "paid in full" once payment is complete
  • Supporting multiple payment devices, including traditional terminals and mobile devices

     

How to set up a POS

Step 1: Integrate your payment provider in Bókun

We are currently supporting Stripe POS terminals and Stripe Tap to Pay for iPhone. Stripe Tap to Pay for Android and SumUP are in development.

Step 2: Configure your POS payment provider

For Stripe POS terminals:

  1. Log in to your Stripe dashboard
  2. Activate POS
  3. Link your POS ID to Bókun. On system confirmation, Bókun recognizes the device.

For Stripe Tap to Pay:

  1. Ensure Tap to Pay is activated on your Stripe dashboard
  2. Each user activates Tap to Pay on their mobile device through either:
    • Bókun mobile app
    • Extranet web login

Step 3: Process Payments

  1. Navigate to Bookings > Create Booking.
  2. In the Payment & confirmation step, select Send to POS as your payment method.
  3. Choose your payment device:
    • Stripe terminals
    • Stripe Tap to Pay on iPhone
    • Stripe Tap to Pay on Android (coming soon)
    • SumUp terminals (coming soon)
  4. Click Save to send payment request to the selected device.
  5. The customer completes the payment on the device.
  6. Once the payment is confirmed, the booking is automatically marked as Paid in Full.

FAQs

What is Tap to Pay and what can it do?

  • Tap to Pay is a POS that allows suppliers to take card payments on location with a mobile device
  • Suppliers can use it to take payments in Create booking
  • Suppliers can use it to take pending payments via the Bókun App
  • Supported currencies for iPhone are GBP, EUR, USD

Who can use to Tap to Pay?

  • Accounts with a paid Bókun subscription
  • Vendors in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy and the Netherland who can take a supported currency

My customer has a payment due. Can I use the POS to complete payment on the balance?

Yes! You can process additional payments through the Bókun mobile app for bookings with outstanding balances.

Can I make a new booking and pay through Bókun mobile app?

No. Currently, new bookings cannot be created through the mobile app. Only payments can be taken.
